Reflecting on Health Habits and Summer Goals

Grade 6 · Health · 45 minutes

Objective

Students will evaluate their current health habits and create realistic wellness goals for the summer break.

Materials

  • notebooks
  • pencils
  • chart paper
  • markers

Hook

Take a few quiet moments to think about how you felt on the first day of school versus how you feel now. What changes do you notice in your energy, mood, or physical abilities?

Main Activity

Students complete a quiet self-reflection journal activity examining their health habits throughout the school year. They write about their sleep patterns, physical activity, eating habits, and stress management techniques they discovered. After personal reflection time, students thoughtfully consider what health practices they want to continue, improve, or start during summer break. They create a simple summer wellness plan with 2-3 realistic goals, writing specific strategies for maintaining healthy routines when school structure is absent. Students then pair up to share one goal and offer gentle encouragement to their partner.

Discussion Questions

  1. What health habit are you most proud of developing this school year?
  2. How might your daily routine change during summer, and how can you adapt your healthy habits?
  3. What is one wellness goal that feels both challenging and achievable for you?
  4. How can you stay motivated to maintain healthy choices when you have more free time?
  5. What support do you need from family or friends to reach your summer health goals?

Exit Ticket

Write one specific action you will take this week to prepare for maintaining your health goals over summer break.

Differentiation

Support: Provide sentence starters for journal prompts and allow students to draw pictures alongside written reflections to express their health experiences.

Extension: Have advanced students research one new healthy habit they want to try over summer and create a detailed weekly plan for implementing it.
