Creating Villains and Heroes for Missing Crown Story
Objective
Students will create and perform distinct character voices and movements to portray heroes and villains in a dramatic story.
Materials
- Chart paper
- Markers
- Small pieces of paper
- Tape
- Whiteboard
Hook
Tell students that the royal crown has been stolen from the kingdom and they must help solve the mystery by becoming the characters in this story. Show them an empty box labeled 'Royal Crown' and ask who might have taken it and who might help find it.
Main Activity
Students work in pairs to create one hero character and one villain character who will be part of the missing crown mystery. They develop each character's special voice, walk, and signature gesture, writing these details on chart paper. Each pair performs their two characters having a conversation about the missing crown, with the hero trying to get information and the villain either confessing, lying, or giving clues. Other students watch and guess whether each character is the real thief based on their performance. The class votes on which villain actually stole the crown and which hero solved the case best.
Discussion Questions
- What vocal choices did you make to show your character was a hero or villain?
- How did your body movements help the audience understand your character's personality?
- Which performances made it clear who was good or bad without using words?
- What clues in the performances helped you guess who really stole the crown?
- How did working with a partner help you develop stronger characters?
Exit Ticket
Draw your villain or hero character and write two words that describe how you used your voice to bring them to life.
Differentiation
Support: Provide sentence starters for character conversations and allow students to use simple costume pieces like paper crowns or capes to help them feel more confident in their roles.
Extension: Challenge students to create a third character who is neither clearly good nor bad, and perform a scene where the audience cannot easily tell if this character is helping or hindering the investigation.
